Most people probably think about Burlesque as just being a female activity. In many cases it is, however there is a strong and sometimes hilarious stream of male burlesque, known as Boylesque.
In the January heat of Burlesque Idol, not only the winner but the runner up were both Boylesque performers. You might have never seen Boylesque before and if you haven’t here are some of my own photographs from the last couple of year’s Burlesque Idol.

October Burlesque Idol was an astounding event, there are no words really. The spectacle and the power of the performances was just amazing. How can you describe the show? Frankly, I don’t know but I do know that a picture tells a thousand words so lets stop talking and start showing the pics.
The winner Lady Fitz Von Tits
The runner up Miranda Lee
The amazing House of Burlesque Dancer Trixie Trix
The extremely flexible Lady FTP
This is my fave pic of the whole evening Miranda Lee again

Hot, Steamy and full of excitement, and that was just the Hippodrome theatre, July saw the latest heat of Burlesque Idol. With only one more heat before the final the pressure was on for the performers to secure their place in November’s prestigious competition.
The competition was amazing, some of the acts were former House of Burlesque school of Burlesque graduates, some came from Burlesque circuits around the country. All of them were utterly amazing.
I particularly liked Purisa Kat’s amazing reverse strip
And Champagne Bubble’s political Burlesque.
These acts really caught my attention and the crowd really caught on quickly to what they were trying to say.
For shear chutzpah Petit Pois really stole the show as she went on to win with her cheeky act
For challenging, you only had to look at Valentino de Labaise and his Boylesque act

I was lucky enough to be the house photographer for Burlesque 2.0 at the amazing Underbelly Festival.
The show takes place in the Spiegel Tent and there are simply no words to describe what an outstanding experience the whole thing was. On a hot summer’s day, there is no better place to be than in the thick of fantastic burlesque.

Last Friday saw me shooting the first heat of the amazing Burlesque Idol 2017 at the Hippodrome London.
The show was outstanding with Burlesque (and for the first time Boylesque) acts that challenged preconceptions and made you think. The winner of the heat Bonnie Knockers will certainly open your eyes if you are a bloke.
I have said it before and will say it again, I have to I need to get the word count up on this blog, if you haven’t been to Burlesque Idol before then you should go.
Nothing more to say.
Here are the pics.

Yes the wait is nearly over and the 2017 season of Burlesque Idol is about to start. I loved being the house photographer for the 2016 season and the standard is outstanding.
The title picture is of Fifi von Tassel the 2017 winner. She was challenging and amazing, the picture gives a hint of how happy she was to be declared the winner.
If you love Burlesque, if you are interested in Burlesque, if you have never been to a Burlesque show and are sure that you will disapprove you should go, the shows will blow your mind. Last year’s performers were some of the best Burlesque that I have ever seen and I am sure that this year, the show will be even better.
Each heat will take place at the Hippodrome Theatre, Leicester Square which only adds to the majesty of the show. Tempest Rose and her team put on a show that will astound you.
Have a look at some of the pics I took last year by clicking on the photo below:
The first heat is 20th January at the Hippodrome, you can find full details by clicking here.
Put the night in your diary, book your ticket and put your party togs you. As the new President of the US might say…….it’ll be great.
In October I was asked to be the house photographer for the House of Burlesque graduation at the Rolling Stock bar in Shoreditch. The acts were brilliant and the club is an amazing venue. Tempest Rose MC’d the event and she introduced a panoply of talent and stars. The atmosphere was amazing and one of the acts made me laugh so much that I couldn’t take pictures for a short while as I giggled away.
So the pics speak for themselves – I hope
